A Daly City man was sentenced Tuesday to 24 years in prison after taking a plea deal for sexually abusing his stepdaughter, a prosecutor said.
Oscar Arnoldo Cumes-Diaz, 46, pleaded no contest on July 23 to abusing his stepdaughter over a period of three and a half years, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The victim’s mother regularly left the girl — now 11-years-old — with Cumes-Diaz while she cleaned houses. On April 11, 2024, she came home early and found her daughter sitting on the couch with her shirt askew and on the verge of tears, the DA said.
“Dad abused me,” the victim told her mother, revealing that Cumes-Diaz raped her, according to Wagstaffe.
The victim was taken to the Keller Center for testing, where Cumes-Diaz’s DNA was found in a forensic examination, Wagstaffe said. During an interview at the center, the victim said Cumes-Diaz had been sexually abusing her since she was 8 years old.
Cumes-Diaz must register as a sex offender and is not allowed to contact the victim for 10 years, Wagstaffe said.
